Organization and structure
The BIPV Alliance is a registered association based in Berlin. The substantive work takes place primarily in the working groups, in which all members can actively participate. Our voluntary Board of Directors coordinates this work and manages the business of the BIPV Alliance.
Management Board
SEBASTIAN LANGE
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
Mr. Sebastian Lange is a lawyer and has been dealing with the legal aspects of municipal climate protection and renewable energies for many years. He advises project developers and operators of environmentally friendly generation plants throughout Germany. In addition to his role as Chairman of the Board of Allianz BIPV e.V., Mr. Lange heads the Energy and Communication working group, which deals with the energy policy aspects of building-integrated photovoltaics and ensures the regular internal and external exchange of information.
Dr. björn Rau
Dr. Björn Rau is deputy director of the technology transfer institute PVcomB (Competence Center for Thin Film and Nanotechnologies in Photovoltaics) at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie. Mr. Rau has been conducting research in the field of applied photovoltaics for many years and has also been coordinating the establishment, operation and further development of the laboratory and research infrastructures at PVcomB for more than 10 years. His current research focuses on the field of building-integrated photovoltaics.
ROBERT KIRCHNER

Mr. Robert Kirchner is Managing Director of Friedmann & Kirchner Gesellschaft für Material- und Bauteilprüfung mbH, based in Rohrbach. Mr. Kirchner has many years of experience in the technical testing and inspection of photovoltaic systems. In addition to his role as treasurer of the BIPV Alliance, Mr. Kirchner is also a member of the Construction and Technology working group.
JOACHIM HÖHNE
OWNER
Mr. Joachim Höhne is Managing Director of GES Gebäude-Energiesysteme GmbH, based near Gera. GES GmbH has decades of experience in the manufacture of customized photovoltaic products. Mr. Höhne represents the interests of medium-sized suppliers in the BIPV e.V. alliance and contributes his expertise to the Construction and Technology working group.
Andreas Wiege
OWNER
Mr. Andreas Wiege is an architect and partner of the Kassel-based architectural firm HHS Planer + Architekten AG. Mr. Wiege and his colleagues at HHS Planer + Architekten AG have planned and realized a large number of outstanding buildings with integrated photovoltaics. In the BIPV e.V. alliance, Mr. Wiege represents the perspective of planners and is the contact person for all design aspects of building-integrated photovoltaics.
Dr. Claudia Hemmerle
Member of the Management Board
Dr.-Ing. Claudia Hemmerle is a junior research group leader at the Chair of Building Technology and Climate Compatible Construction at the Technical University of Munich. She has conducted research in numerous projects on technology development, building law and the interdisciplinary planning process for building-integrated PV and is now investigating how the solar energy and greening potential of urban building envelopes can be leveraged synergistically and sustainably on a large scale. Within the BIPV e.V. alliance, she heads the Building+Technology working group
Fabian Flade M. A.
DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD
Fabian Flade is managing director of a communications agency and office manager of Solarenergieförderverein Bayern e. V. He has been working in the field of renewable energies for over 25 years. In the area of BIPV, the focus of its activities is on the organization and implementation of the “Architekturpreis Gebäudeintegrierte Solartechnik”, which brings together projects realized worldwide in the field of architecture and solar technology every three years, awards them prizes and communicates them through a wide variety of channels. Mr. Flade heads the Communications working group of the BIPV Alliance.
WORKING GROUPS
The BIPV Alliance brings together the various players and perspectives on building-integrated photovoltaics. The BIPV Alliance ensures a regular exchange of information and experience between members and between theory and practice.
AG BAU+TECHNIK
An essential part of the exchange of information and experience takes place in the Bau+Technik working group. Technical directives and guidelines are drawn up jointly and published here. The BIPV Alliance guidelines summarize the state of the art. The guidelines provide practical tips for planning and implementation.
The Construction+Technology working group is headed by Dr. Claudia Hemmerle.
AG COMMUNICATION
The primary task of the Communication Working Group is to facilitate the exchange of information and experience within the BIPV Alliance. This is done in particular by setting up this BIPV portal. In addition, the Communications WG also works to ensure that the BIPV Alliance and its concerns are heard by decision-makers.
The Communications working group is headed by Mr. Fabian Flade.
RESEARCH WG
Representatives from universities and research institutions will work together in the Research Working Group and exchange information on their various research projects.
